Joe Block is leaving his position as radio sidekick to Bob Uecker for Milwaukee Brewers broadcasts to go the No. 1 human in the berth for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jeff Levering, who joined the Brewers' radio broadcasts every bit the No. 3 human last flavor, filling in for Uecker on selected road trips, will motility upwardly to replace Block, the team announced. Knowing Block had a solid take a chance to get the Pittsburgh job, the Brewers already had begun accepting applications to hire a replacement for Levering.

Block, 37, who worked with Uecker for four seasons, posted the news on his web site, thanking Brewers fans for their support and saying his goodbyes.

"This is a bittersweet time," said Block. "I am elated to be joining the Pirates' circulate team simply saddened that I'll no longer exist a office of the Brewers' organization...

"Nosotros'll miss the friends we've fabricated around our workplaces and their smiling faces. "Working with Bob Uecker is unquestionably the greatest privilege I've had equally a broadcaster. Our human relationship has developed into one of the truest friendships I've ever known. I hope you've felt that fun as y'all've listened. I will miss this, a lot."

Block noted that while he met wife Bethany in New Orleans, she is a Pittsburgh native and will be going home with the movement. The couple has a newborn girl, Nancy.

"We're infinitely blest to be able to ally family and careers and we're incredibly eager to be a full-time part of the Western Pa. community for decades to come," Block said in his posting.

Working in the Brewers berth with Uecker has proven to be a launching pad to get No. one broadcasters elsewhere. Pat Hughes moved on to the Chicago Cubs, Jim Powell to the Atlanta Braves, Cory Provus to the Minnesota Twins and now Block to the Pirates.

"We know Joe is going to do a swell job," said Tyler Barnes, vice president of communications for the Brewers. "It'south an opportunity for him to move into a atomic number 82 part. It'southward a corking attestation to not just his talents merely as well to Ueck, for how he has mentored a practiced string of candidates to move on to No. 1 roles in other cities.

"If this had been half a dozen years agone, we would have been starting at square ane to fill Joe's function. We're very fortunate to have a really talented guy in Jeff Levering to step right in. We think very highly of him and we know he'll exercise a great job."

Barnes said the Brewers already have received close to 200 applications to fill the opening created past Block'south difference. And he said the guild volition move aggressively to make a hire.

"The just challenge we accept is the timing," said Barnes. "We've set up a timeline that is aggressive but we will do our diligence in finding the right person. We're optimistic we can have somebody ready to go past the time WTMJ goes on the air for the starting time bound training game (in early March)."
